PLAYTIME

Support programme for the Bremen DJ and club scene

Due to the elimination of Corona funding and the club funding pool, the situation for DJs and clubs is extremely tense. Clubs are fighting for acceptance and against immense economic pressure. Across Germany, a club death can be observed in many places, which makes performance opportunities for DJs an even scarcer commodity. At the same time, the state of Bremen is missing out on great potential – not just musical – when musicians and people who are enthusiastic about club culture seek their fortune in other major cities due to better conditions. A city that wants to retain and attract young people must invest in its cultural scene – and club culture is now an inseparable part of this scene.

In recent years, due to the growing popularity of electronic music, more and more DJs in Bremen and Bremerhaven have found their way behind the decks. These newcomers are joining an already existing and very active scene. The state therefore has a large number of artists who regularly perform and have developed the desire to make a living from their art. In order to progress as a DJ and be visible, you have to find enough performance opportunities in the city where you live, because especially for DJs, their own performances are by far the most important source of income. With the PLAYTIME funding program, the POP Office Bremen and Clubverstärker e.V. want to strengthen the described symbiosis of clubs and DJs in the state of Bremen and thus activate the identified potential.

PLAYTIME is a new funding program that we have specifically tailored to DJs from Bremen and Bremerhaven. After the many grandiose showcases for bands and solo artists that we have been able to realize in the last two years, we are looking forward to pushing our local DJ scene in the coming months. With the funding program, the POP Office Bremen wants to sustainably network, promote and train the club and DJ scenes of Bremen and Bremerhaven — that means: There are gigs and lots of workshops!

Become a resident DJ now!

Until May 2025, in close cooperation with the clubs, we will select a total of nine new Resident DJs who will have the opportunity to play regularly in the clubs for a fair fee. A Resident DJ will also receive free access to the DJ workshops and individual advice in the POP Office Bremen’s consulting pool during their ongoing funding.

With this combination of performances and further training, we not only want to present the resident DJs to a larger crowd, but also strengthen the Bremen DJ scene as a whole through networking and knowledge transfer. If you have already gained experience as a DJ and now want to take the next step, apply to become a resident DJ and take part in our workshops!

And this is how the application works…

DJ-Workshops

From September 2024 to May 2025, workshops for advanced DJs will take place regularly. All DJs from Bremen and Bremerhaven who already master the basics such as beatmatching and EQing and now want to specialize further can participate. We assume the basics of DJing, which is why the workshops are unsuitable for beginners.

The workshops are now gradually going online and will be available here:

The participation fee is 5.49 euros per workshop (free for Resident DJs)*. A maximum of 8 people can participate per workshop.

*The participation fee is inclusive of fees and payable in advance via PayPal. A claim to participation exists only after payment of the amount. If another alternative payment option is required, please contact us.

Cancellation of participation must be made at least 48 hours before the start of the respective workshop so that another participant can move up. There is no entitlement to a refund after the deadline.
