MUSIC MEET UP 2023

On November 25, 2023, our first Music Meet Up will take place, a conference and networking day for the local music scene. At this event, we want to connect, inform, and mutually inspire musicians, producers, label people, event organizers, music journalists and enthusiasts — in short: the Bremen music scene. There will be an exciting program of panel talks and keynotes on highly topical issues: We will be talking to our guests about the state of the Bremen music landscape, artificial intelligence, and antisemitism in the music scene. Admission is free and you don’t need to register! Just come along and spend a nice and stimulating day with us!

What does the Bremen music scene need? | Panel Talk + Q&A

What can Bremen’s scene do particularly well? Where does Bremen still need to catch up? How can we work together to advance the music scene? Together with you and our panelists, we want to take stock and consider what the future of the local scene could look like. Get involved – because you are the Bremen music scene!

Timo Warkus and Simon Barth from Team Scheisse, Esther Siwinski as Managing Director of the Breminale, the Zucker Club, and Kreativer Aufbruch Bremerhaven will be discussing with us. The panel talk will be moderated by Chrissie Loock.

Side Note: As a non-profit association for popular music, we want to repeat this discussion annually at our Music Meet Up and thus document how the scene actually develops and what needs exist.

Artificial Intelligence & Music | Keynotes + Q&A

Whether as a creative booster, work facilitator, or co-producer — the use of AI in the creative industries is currently a hot topic. That’s why we’re presenting you with two keynotes on this highly topical issue at our Music Meet Up.

Jewgeni “Jeff” Birkhoff will present the most important generative AI applications and demonstrate live how he uses them as a producer and sound designer. The audience is always invited to participate in Jeff’s lectures. So you can not only get an insight into producing with AI, but you can also move directly to practice with Jeff. In the café, we will also offer an AI workstation where you can try things out. The future is now!

But who owns the AI-generated music anyway? How do you deal with audio deepfakes legally? And is our copyright law even prepared for generative AI? In the second keynote, our media lawyer Jule Körperich discusses what needs to be considered from a legal perspective when dealing with AI. Jule will shed light on the legal gray areas surrounding the topic of AI & copyright.

Both lectures will be followed by an open Q session where you can ask your questions directly to our experts.

Antisemitism in the music scene | Panel Talk + QA

Antisemitism in the music scene is not a new phenomenon, but since the terrorist attack by the Islamist Hamas on Israel, it has become clear how widespread hatred of Jews is in our scene. In song lyrics, social networks, and concerts, antisemitic content, propaganda, and disinformation are spread by musicians. Antisemitic incidents are also increasing in the supposedly progressive and emancipatory parts of the music scene.

Jewish artists, on the other hand, are afraid to perform in public or make their affiliation with Judaism public. So it is high time that we talk about antisemitism in the music scene – critically, respectfully, and in solidarity!

The Jewish rapper Sharon and the antisemitism researcher and DJ Jakob Baier will take part in our panel. The panel talk will be moderated by Mira Anneli Naß from the University of Bremen.
